 Rearing and Rehabilitation

Schlauchfütterung-Fische ziehen-Auswilderungsbecken-Auswilderung

According to the international seal agreement the Seal Centre Friedrichskoog is the only authorised shelter for abandoned or sick seals in the state of Schleswig-Holstein. The rearing and rehabilitation of seal pups are main aspects of the work during the summer.

Abandoned pups are evaluated by assigned seal hunters and brought to the centre. Here they are reared as close to nature as possible. Next to rearing, the rehabilitation of weak or sick seals is also part of the work of the centre.

The entire rearing area is strictly prohibited for visitors, but it is possible to watch the pups undisturbed by video cameras. You can also view the rearing area from the observation tower and the tutorial room, which can be found on the 1st floor in the Information centre about harbour seals.
